Walmart earnings come up short, shares down in pre-market

The largest retailer in the US reported an EPS of $0.68 (vs $0.74 estimate) but at least revenue managed to come in strong at $177.4 billion (vs $176.2 billion estimate). Looking at the details, operating income fell by $0.7 billion (or 8.2%) mainly affected by discrete legal and restructuring costs.

Besides that, Walmart did raise its outlook for the coming fiscal year with revenue seen up from 3.75% to 4.25% and EPS up from $2.52 to $2.62 respectively.

The earnings report did not make any real mention on tariffs but we’ll have to hear from CEO Doug McMillon later in the conference call at 1200 GMT i.e. top of the hour.
