China has reportedly urged local firms to avoid using Nvidia’s H20 chips in new guidance

Forex Short News

It is reported that Chinese authorities have sent notices over the past few weeks, calling on local companies to avoid using Nvidia’s H20 processors. That especially if they are to be used for government-related purposes. The guidance is masked under a guise of discouraging firms to use “less-advanced” semiconductors but fiercely pointed out objection towards the use of H20 chips for any government or security-related work.

It is unclear how much of this extends towards AMD’s MI308 chips though, according to the sources.

But just note that both Nvidia and AMD did secure approval from the Trump administration to resume lower-end AI chip sales to China. And Trump was very much hoping to make a windfall from those sales, as they were to take a 15% cut of the associated revenue.

So, this definitely throws that plan into question especially if Chinese enterprises are to stop making said purchases under the directive of Beijing.
