According to Bloomberg,:
- Fed’s Waller is a favorite for Fed chair
- The Trump team likes Waller’s forecast for Fed rate cuts
- Waller has met with the Trump team but not with Trump himself
Although Trump says he supports the Fed’s independence and the recent spin from the White House is that the Fed is political with the split in vote going along “party lines” – as in who nominated the Fed governors – the truth is that Trump wants to shift that political bias in his direction and make the Fed “his house”. Being able to nominate a new Fed chair and a replacement for Kugler is to extra votes in his favor. If Waller becomes the chair, it would open up two Gov. positions to be filled.
